Welcome to Woodstock,Illinois
A National Trust
Distinctive Destination
Located in scenic McHenry
County and just a 70 minute ride northwest of Chicago, Woodstock,
IL has a
unique and beguiling character. Woodstock's breathtaking 1890's town
square and downtown historic district offer a distinctive collection of
shops, restaurants, galleries, theatre, and clubs in a friendly,
historic, market town.
Innovative and creative entrepreneurs provide a superior shopping, dining, entertainment, and
"staying over" experience. Offering a wide selection of
exclusive goods and services that cannot be found elsewhere, this is a
town that offers real choice, beyond the shopping
experience of malls and chain brands.
In 2007
Woodstock was recognized as one of twelve Distinctive Destinations in
the United States by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The
unique character and vibrancy of the downtown historic district gives
Woodstock
a sense of place and brings residents and visitors back and back again. The
small downtown, serving as the hub of community activity, has all but
disappeared in towns all across the country.
Woodstock
has been successful in protecting the historic and community nature of
its historic downtown, however, continued vigilance and active community
stewardship, particularly in tough economic times, is required to
sustain this effort.
Be
part of the effort to create and sustain a community vision for downtown
through our Visioning Workshop.
